The Situation
Boswinger is a very small, South Cornish village, 3.5 miles from Mevagissey and 10 miles from St Austell. The village is set on the hill facing the Dodman Peninsula and looking down over Hemmick Beach, both of which are cared for by the National Trust and are beautiful and unspoiled. Caerhays, or Porthluney Beach, with the castle behind, is 2 miles by road and less if you are walking the Coastal Path, which is only minutes away from The Granary.

Within 5 miles are The Lost Gardens of Heligan, often featured on television, and well worth a visit. There are, of course, many other gardens in the area and the Eden Project, opening spring 2003 with the largest controlled climate biospheres in the world, is just to the east of St Austell. Local wines are produced at Polmassick Vineyard and St Austell Brewery welcomes arranged visits.

For those who like a busier atmosphere, Mevagissey, offers many shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants. It also has a museum and a model railway. There is an attractive double harbour from which fishing trips are available during the summer months.

Gorran, one mile away and Gorran Haven just over 2 miles away from us, both have pubs which serve lunchtime and evening meals, post offices and churches. In addition, Gorran Haven has a small harbour and two beaches, a restaurant, fish and chip shop and the usual village shops.

Our lovely local beach, Hemmick, is just down the lane from The Granary, the next beach along going towards Gorran Haven is Bow or Vault beach, a favourite for naturists and others who enjoy the peaceful location. Going round the coast in the other direction from Hemmick you will arrive at Caerhays or Porthluney beach. At the back of the beach stands the very attractive Caerhays Castle, used in a film version of Daphne du Maurier's "Rebecca", and whose gardens are open to the public several times each year.
The Accommodation
The Granary was a newly converted barn when we moved here in Autumn 1996. We fell in love instantly with the building and wonderful location and we haven't changed our minds!

We offer comfortable twin and double-bedded rooms, which are also available for single occupancy. The bedrooms have beamed ceilings, are central-heated and double glazed, and have tea and coffee making facilities with fresh refrigerated milk available. We offer a full English breakfast with eggs from our own hens, and evening meals are usually available. We are happy to provide a full vegetarian breakfast for non-meat eaters. We are animal lovers and have 3 cats, 3 rabbits, hens and ducks.

During breakfast the spectacular views over the beach and hills can be enjoyed from our Dining Room, and perhaps the day's walk planned.

By prior arrangement, transport to and from St Austell bus and train stations is available. Some guests have found it useful to arrange with us to be driven to, or collected from, their day's walk, enabling them to extend their stay with us. Drivers may, of course, use our parking area. We have a heated drying room for walkers wet clothes, and there are hairdryers in each bedroom.

Directions
We are ideally located on this warm south Cornish coast for Spring and Autumn breaks, and are open all year round. Weather permitting, guests are very welcome to sit out either on the terrace next to the house, or at the lower end of the garden, and perhaps enjoy a cup of tea and the splendid views after their journey or day out.

How to find us from St Austell

Leaving St Austell by the (A390/A391/B3273) roundabout, take the B3273, signed Mevagissey. After 3 miles, Pentewan beach is on your left. Drive up the hill. At the top, do NOT drive straight on to Mevagissey, but turn right to St Ewe, Gorran and Gorran Haven. After 1.3 miles pass Heligan Gardens on left. After 3.3 miles fork right to Boswinger and Sea View International Camping Park. Half a mile later, at the T-Junction, turn right signed Boswinger. Another half mile and Sea View International will be ahead on your left. Turn left here down the lane signed Youth Hostel. In 300 yards round a right hand bend, on the left opposite a farmhouse, three barns surround a courtyard. The Granary is opposite the pedestrian courtyard entrance, with logs by the door. Welcome!
